Cheaper Japanese Accommodations

Is Japan REALLY that expensive? You bet! But that doesn't mean you have to pay through your nose for everything and can't find a good deal if you know where to look.

Even though Osaka and Tokyo are the most expensive cities in the world, you can still find some reasonable accommodations without having to sell your soul to the devil.

Here are a few cheaper places.

  • Yadokari
  • E-Ryokan - Nationwide list of Japanese inns (Ryokan)
  • E-Hotel Japan - Make reservations thru the net
  • Japanese Inn Group - Another chain of inns
  • Japan City Hotels Association - Moderate priced hotels nationwide
  • Tiglion - Bargains at more upscale places
  • Japan Youth Hostel Assn.
  • Japan Hospitality Public Youth Hostel Group
  • Japan Hotel.net
  • Hotel Marroad Chain
  • Family Inn Fifty's - in Tokyo and Osaka
  • Toyoko Inn
  • Super Hotel - Nationwide single rooms at 4800 yen (in Japanese).
  • International Tourism Center of Japan

NB: When comparing prices, please be sure to check if the room charge does or does not contain the 5% consumption tax, as well as any service charges. Also some places may have curfews, especially hostels and family run places like Japanese inns (ryokan), so if in doubt be sure to ask first. And public transportation usually stops between midnight and 5 AM or so. Taxis can be very expensive, especially at night.
